About AWSNA
AWSNA's Activities
Vision and Planning:
The Association takes a leading role in articulating a vision and coordinating a
plan for supporting the growth and development of Waldorf Education and Waldorf schools in North America.
Support for Affiliated Schools:
AWSNA Regional Chairs coordinate consultation to affiliated schools on
curriculum, child development, mentoring, school organization and finance. Other support includes the
Development and Administrators' Network of AWSNA and the Healthy Waldorf Schools conferences.
Support for Teachers:
AWSNA provides loans and grants to aspiring Waldorf teachers through programs at
member teacher education centers and invites teacher education centers to come together for program review
and exchange of ideas. It also offers teachers opportunities for professional development, produces
publications and curriculum support materials, and offers pedagogical advising.
Conferences and Workshops:
Throughout the year, the Association sponsors and coordinates conferences and
workshops for teachers, parents, trustees, and administrators.
Research:
AWSNA partners with the Research Institute for Waldorf Education to support ongoing research
into curriculum and child development.
Accreditation & Membership Development:
The Association provides the opportunity for Waldorf schools to
become accredited by completing a formal evaluation process. AWSNA also provides information on starting
a Waldorf school and support to schools throughout various stages of their growth.
Fundraising:
AWSNA conducts fundraising campaigns and cultivates major donors to increase financial
support for the Waldorf school movement.
DANA (Development and Administrative Network of AWSNA):
The Association supports a network of school
administrators and development personnel who provide a resource and vehicle for sharing of fundraising
and administrative expertise for schools.
Publications:
AWSNA produces resource materials for teachers, parents, board, staff, and the general
public, including Renewal: A Journal for Waldorf Education and other publications available in the Online
Bookstore.
Community Outreach:
To increase visibility for Waldorf Education, the Association has a program of
advertising and printed communication pieces.
