A key to attracting and retaining high quality personnel is a school’s ability to provide an assortment of salary and benefits that make working in Waldorf education a career choice with life-long sustainability. In addition to providing salary and benefits while the individual is employed, responsible schools and institutes have also given thought to retirement planning for their colleagues.
A large variety of funding alternatives are available, and most involve both employee and employer contributions. A large number of schools and AWSNA itself have chosen to use TIAA-CREF to provide retirement planning and investment services to its employees. TIAA-CREF has as its primary mission to serve the long-term retirement and insurance needs of their participating institutions and their employees, and is itself a non-profit organization. Over 2.5 million faculty and staff at over 15,000 colleges, universities, elementary and secondary schools, teaching hospitals and research institutes throughout the United States, currently use it. Additional information can be obtained by visiting the TIAA-CREF website.
